About and Methodology: How the Sacramento Bookkeeper Guide Works
Useful facts, visible sources and room for questions. That is the standard for this first edition.
What this guide does
This directory helps a business owner discover Sacramento-region bookkeeping firms and prepare a better first conversation. It uses public business websites to describe services, location, software and advertised pricing. The list is an expanding research sample, not a complete or guaranteed current census.
What “source-checked” means
We checked the linked pages on October 13, 2026. A source check establishes what a website says; it is not an independent audit of the business. We have not verified current capacity, response times, service quality, credentials, insurance or client outcomes. Those unknowns are shown rather than converted into scores.
Profiles default to alphabetical order. Filters match explicit website statements. An absent tag means “not confirmed in the reviewed source,” not “this firm does not offer it.” Compare is a side-by-side view of these facts, not a quality ranking. Prices can change and must be confirmed directly with each firm.
How preliminary ranking works
Evidence match gives one point for each selected filter with a supported match. All criteria have equal weight and the maximum equals the number you selected. Free-text search narrows results but does not add points. Unknown fields add no points and are labeled explicitly; that is a statement about available evidence, not poor service. Known mismatches are excluded. By default the list shows confirmed matches only, and the count beside it says how many more firms have not published a selected detail; one click adds them back, below the confirmed matches, so limited website detail never silently removes a firm.
Matched criteria and unpublished details are listed on each result. Ties sort alphabetically. With no selected filters, the list is alphabetical. Price sorting uses only a published monthly starting fee, with unclear/unpublished prices last; scope differs and a written quote is still needed. Reviews, paid placement, inferred service quality and popularity contribute no points.
Who publishes this guide
The Sacramento Bookkeeper Guide is published by Joshua Thacker. Through Thacker Ventures, Joshua works with Sacramento bookkeeping firms on AI-assisted workflows, and he intends to own and grow a local bookkeeping practice. That interest is part of why this guide exists: there was no sourced, independent way to compare local firms, and building one is the best way to understand the market.
How that interest stays out of the guide
Inclusion, order and profile content follow the method on this page. No firm pays to be listed or ranked. A conversation with Joshua, whether a firm says yes, no or nothing, never changes a listing, its order or how a correction is handled. If the publisher ever owns, sponsors or is paid by a listed firm, that profile will carry a visible label, the public sort order will not change, and visitor inquiries will not be routed to that firm without saying so.
This directory accepts no payments, sells no leads and provides no paid placement. Listed firms have not endorsed the guide or confirmed their profiles.
Matching is a future possibility
For now, links take you directly to the firms. There is no matching request form, availability promise or referral service. Before any compensated referral model launches, it needs a legally reviewed structure. The California Board of Accountancy states that its licensees cannot pay a referral fee or commission to obtain a client. That rule should not be generalized into a claim that every non-CPA bookkeeping arrangement is identical.
A growing first edition
Profiles are researched from public sources and can change. Use the profile correction form when available. Check source dates and confirm current terms directly; recurring re-verification is not yet configured. This is a growing first edition, not a complete census of every local firm. Search visibility and traffic are not guaranteed.
