For firm owners

The Sacramento Bookkeeper Guide describes local bookkeeping firms using what each firm publishes on its own website. If your firm is listed, you can ask for its profile to be updated at no cost.

Start an update request, or read how review works first. The form covers firms already listed. If your firm is not listed, there is not yet a way to request a listing; the guide adds firms as it researches them from their own websites.

What the guide is

A public, source-checked directory of Sacramento-area bookkeeping firms, plus practical guides for business owners hiring a bookkeeper. Every fact on a profile links to the page it came from and carries the date it was checked. Details a firm has not published are shown as not published, never guessed.

What is free

Everything. Being listed, updating your profile and asking for a correction are free. There is no paid placement, no account to create and no fee for visitors who contact you.

What you can update

What needs a source

Anything shown publicly must be checkable on your firm's own website or in a document you send. If a detail is not on your website yet, add it there or reply to your confirmation email with a document that shows it. Changes without a source stay off the profile, and unknown details stay marked as not published.

How a request is reviewed

  1. You send a request from your profile or the button on this page. If you give an email address, a confirmation with a receipt ID arrives right away.
  2. A person checks each change against your firm's own website or the document you sent, and may confirm your connection to the firm through contact details listed on that website.
  3. Usually within 3 business days, you get an email reply saying what changed or what is still needed.
  4. Approved changes are published with a new checked date. Nothing changes on a profile before that review.

What a request never changes

Inclusion and order never depend on payment or conversations. Firms are ordered by the published method, and a request, a conversation or no conversation at all never moves a firm up or down. Who publishes this guide is explained on the About page.

Removing a person's name

If someone named on a profile would rather not be listed, send a request: choose Public factual correction, pick the profile, name the person to remove, and include your email so the publisher can confirm. The person or the firm can ask. No source is needed to remove a name; the publisher only checks that the request came from that person or the firm, then removes the name and confirms by email.
